The sonic beast is a creature variant that was intended for inclusion in The Thing II, a planned sequel to the 2002 video game The Thing. However, it was ultimately scrapped after developer Computer Artworks entered receivership in October 2003[1]. Although cancelled, pre-production art guides were released, revealing the developers' vision for the game.

Background

According to the art guide description, the Sonic Beast (as suggested by its name) is capable of generating sonic attacks from its wide, petalled mouth. Its maw is also lined with teeth and is capable of mauling victims. The creature bursts from its host's back and uses the host's limbs as legs, leaving their head screaming and spitting acid as the beast moves around. In addition, spine tubes along the creature's back produce an acid gas which damages player and non-player character (NPC) health.
