Military Airstrip

The Airstrip is a classified Military airstrip utilized by biotechnology company Gen Inc and located in Antarctica. The airstrip consists of at least four aircraft hangars and a control tower and is located near the Transit Hangar, where cargo is stored for transportation. The facility appears in the 2002 video-game The Thing.

History

After discovering rogue American colonel Whitley's plan to transport Thing specimens out of Antarctica via cargo planes, Blake infiltrated the airfield and sabotaged the four aircraft using C4 explosives - detonating them from the air traffic control tower using a sniper rifle. Whitley sent a security team to ambush the Captain and his team, however they were quickly dispatched and Blake escaped down an air-intake vent to Gen Inc's underground Weapons Laboratory.
