Ithaca 37 - The Thing (1982) (1)

R.J. MacReady proceeds to the dog kennels with an Ithaca 37, as seen in The Thing (1982).

The Ithaca 37 is a pump-action shotgun made in large numbers for the civilian, military, and police markets. It utilizes a novel combination ejection/loading port on the bottom of the gun which leaves the sides closed to the elements. Since shotshells load and eject from the bottom, operation of the gun is equally convenient for both right and left hand shooters. The Ithaca 37 is frequently utilized throughout the 1982 film The Thing, as a weapon held in U.S. Outpost 31's weapon cabinets and utilized by helicopter pilot and protagonist R.J. MacReady.
