An audio recorder is a device which records sound to magnetic tape using a microphone. An audio cassette recorder is used by helicopter pilot R.J. MacReady during the 1982 film The Thing to record a series of tapes detailing the events at U.S. Outpost 31. Similar devices also appear in the 2002 video-game of the same name, where they are scattered throughout the levels and are used to save the player's game progress.
